Join us Saturday, August 31st & Sunday, September 1st  at the McKenzie Recreational Park for a "mini" re-enactment of the South Fork Engagement.  Stroll the campgrounds and watch the skirmish at 2:00 p.m. from the Como Street walking trail.

WHAT:   Learn how to make your own “starting pots” for cold crops like cabbage, broccoli,cauliflower and Brussels sprouts or zinnia's.

COST:     $ 5.00 per person, includes get acquainted snacks!

Free zinnia seeds will be available, if you want to start cold crops, you will need to bring your own seeds.

Very Special Arts Festival

This year's Very Special Arts Festival is Saturday, March 1 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Carroll County Civic Center.  This day is set aside for the Children of Carroll County to enjoy free arts and crafts activities and stage performances.  The event features face painting, nutritious snacks, wearable crafts, balloons and much more.

Reservations are currently being taken for arts and crafts booths and stage performances.  School groups, church groups, civic organizations and individuals are all encouraged to participate in this exciting event for the people of Carroll County.  Please call 986-4482, ext 240 for more information and to reserve your booth/performance time.

Northwest Tennessee head Start/EHS 2014-2015 Registration

Northwest Tennessee Head Start/Early Head Start is accepting applications for enrollment of children for the 2014-2015 program year for the McKenzie Head Start and Early Head Start center.

If you are expecting or have children birth to four years old on or before August 15 and you are interested in enrolling him/her in the Head Start/EHS program, you may complete an application during registration day.  Children with disabilities will be given priority for enrollment including those with severe disabilities.

Registration will be held: 

When:  Wednesday -March 5, 2014 & Thursday- March 6, 2014

Where:  McKenzie Head Start/Early Head Start - 938 Walnut Ave-McKenzie, TN  38201

Time:  Wednesday-9:00 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.     Thursday-9:30 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. or by appoinment anytime.

The following documentation is needed to complete your child's application:

Proof of child's age - Social Security number for each family member-Name, address and telephone number of at least three emergency contact persons-TennCare and/or insurance card-proof of family income

Echoes of the Past Cemetery Walk

Join us as we stroll the tranquil grounds of beautiful historic Mt. Olivet Cemetery and learn more about the people who lived in McKenzie and who were instrumental in building the great place we call home today!  2014 will feature John McKenzie, James Monroe McKenzie, Sarah Gates Cole Ridley, Benjamin Portius Moore, W. G. Costen and Nannie Cole Snead Ramsey. There is no charge, but donations are happily accepted!  Vehicles are allowed.

Dates for the event are Saturday, April 12th from 11:00 am until 3:00 pm and Sunday, April 13th from 1:00 until 4:00 pm.

Christmas with Renaissance

The Renaissance Chorus brings the sounds of the Christmas season to us on December 2-4th at the  located on Stonewall St. The performances begin Friday evening @ 7:00 p.m.,  Saturday with a 2:00 p.m. matinee and a 7:00 p.m. performance and again on Sunday with a 2:00 p.m. performance.  Call Bethel University 352-4000 for tickets.

Light up the eyes of a child this Christmas season with your $ 5.00 donation to one of the Angel Trees located in the lobby of Carroll Bank & Trust or City Hall.  Each $ 5.00 donation lights a bulb and makes a donation to helping fund the Angel Tree.  Sponsored by Beta Sigma Phi.  For additional information, contact Jennifer Waldrup.

Make your plans to attend the meeting at City Hall on January 26th @ 7:00 p.m. to let TWRA know that McKenzie           does not want to lose the "original" Carroll Lake! We have to unite together to show our support! Then show up                at the meeting in Huntingdon on Tuesday, the 27th @ 5:30 to let them know "our" 100 acre lake matters!

Mardi Gras in McKenzie!

Enjoy a Mardi Gras Celebration with the Krewe of ACT II!  It's the next best thing to being there!  Shhhhh, don't tell the folks in Louisianna, but due to the inclimante weather, we rescheduled our event for Saturday, February 21st, at Connie's Place, 17 Broadway (next to library) for authentic New Orleans cuisine, featuring Cajun and Creole dishes,  King Cake and bellinis!  Tickets are $ 15 and are limited. Due to the February 17th cancellation, we have 14 tickets available for sale.  All proceeds will go to the Park Theatre.

MHS Great Pretenders

McKenzie High School Class of 2015 Great Pretenders will be presented Sunday, March 8th @ 2 p.m. in the Bouldin Auditorium at the Dickey Fine Arts Building on the Bethel University campus.  Reserved seating must be purchased in advance for $ 10.00.  General admission tickets are $ 8.00 in advance and $10.00 at the door.  Contact any senior or senior parent for tickets.

Rotaract, a service club on the Bethel University campus, is holding a fund-raising cookout on Saturday, March 28th from 9:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. in the Save-A-Lot parking lot.  McKenzie Rotary Club members will be assisting.
